Mactracker provides detailed technical information on every Apple Macintosh model along with information on Motorola, PowerComputing, and UMAX clones. The database also includes Apple displays, printers, scanners, digital cameras, AirPort Base Stations, iPod, Newtons, and Mac OS versions. Mactracker also includes the ability for you to add your own custom "notes" to each of the model info windows.

Each of the info windows (with the exception of software) contains an image and description courtesy of either The Apple Museum or Apple-History.com. As well a complete list (including download links) of all Mac OS Updates from Mac OS 8.1 to the cureent version of Mac OS X are included along with Firmware updates for every Mac since the Power Macintosh G3 (Blue and White).

What's New in v4.0

In addition to all the latest Apple hardware, the major new features include a rewritten search engine, Smart Categories (similar to Smart Playlists in iTunes), color labels, independent database updating, Unicode support for comments, a new category called "This Mac" which shows the current Mac, and the addition of Apple Hardware Test versions. A complete list of changes is included in the Read Me which is available from the help menu within Mactracker 4.

  • Adds specification to indicate support for using 128 GB or larger ATA hard drives
  • Other minor changes and additions

System Requirements

Mactracker 3.0 is available for;

  • Mac OS X 10.2 or later;
  • Mac OS 8.5 or later;
  • Windows 2000 or XP;
  • iPods with dock connectors (including iPod mini and iPod photo)
  • QuickTime is required for the images and startup and death chimes on both Mac and PC.

Downloading MacTracker

MacTracker is available as a self-running application for either Mac OS X, Classic Mac OS and Windows 2000/XP and as a "Notes" file for use on the iPod.

At present, MacTracker v4.0 is only available for Mac OS X and the iPod. The Classic OS and Windows versions will be released shortly - meanwhile we'll continue to supply v3.0.1 for Classic OS and Windows users.

Mactracker for iPod brings Mactracker's database to Apple's iPod through the Notes feature and can be installed from either a Macintosh or Windows system.
