More Highlights from the AUSOM Website

As mentioned in my last article (AUSOM News May 2003) the AUSOM web site is constantly in a state of flux, with changes and additions happening on a regular basis. Well that is true and thus it is easy to over look some of the older pages that exist on the web site.

Just because they are "older" doesn't mean that they don't contain useful and informative data and they often provide potential, brand new and even longer-term members with a wealth of knowledge.

AUSOM

Contact Us

This is an obvious one, but often over looked on many web sites. AUSOM has a page dedicated with all the information you need to contact us, including our postal address, telephone & facsimile numbers and email address. There is a link to page from most other pages on the site, which lives just under the AUSOM logo in the top right.

About AUSOM

For people who have just been introduced to AUSOM (or those who want to get re-acquainted), a good place to find an overview of what we are about and what we do is the About AUSOM page. There is also a link from this page to the AUSOM Movie.

Our Movie

In response to a competition we ran a year or so ago, AUSOM member, Ivan Radywonik, produced a movie that promotes the benefits of becoming an AUSOM Member.

Note this movie is quite large at 5.3mg, so youÕ¬l need to be patient if you don't have broadband, but your patience will be well rewarded.

This movie has also featured in many write-ups about Macintosh User Groups and how they promote themselves and utilise a web site to its maximum potential.

You'll need the QuickTime plug-in installed in your web browser to view the movie (most browsers include this plug-in these days).

Special Interest Groups

A term often heard around AUSOM is "SIGs" or "Special Interest Groups" and many people don't know what the term actually means. Well there is a special page on the AUSOM web site that explains this term and then provides a short introduction to many of our SIGs.

Some of the entries for SIGs are updated each month and can provide an overview of what happened at the last meeting and/or what is to happen in the forthcoming month. Others SIGs just retain a generic overview of what the group generally covers at its' sessions.

SIG Leaders: If you'd like to add, or update, your entry, just email our webmaster with updated text.

Apple Spec Mirror

AUSOM is proud to be the Official Australian Mirrorof the Apple Spec Database.

"What is a mirror?" I hear you ask. Well, a mirror is a copy of high volume information. By providing a mirror, we reduce the load impact on the "master" site and can thus speed up downloads and reduce traffic charges.

As to what the Apple Spec Database is itself, it contains detailed technical specifications on a variety of Apple computers, displays, and printers introduced since 1978. These specifications include information about memory configurations, power requirements, video capabilities, built-in ports, software, sound capabilities, and logic board components.

The Apple Spec Database is provided as a standalone Classic Application and as a FileMaker Pro database.
