Who may re-print Nicholas Pyers’ articles?
Any non-profit Apple User Group may re-print, free of charge, any of the articles written by Nicholas Pyers found in the /articles, /site-reviews, /pr or /puzzles directories of the NicholasPyers.com websites.
There are just a couple of simple conditions;
1: Inform us that you are reprinting the article.
You must inform Nicholas that you are re-printing one of his article’s by completing the form below and listing the following;
- The name of the article you are re-printing
- The name of your Apple User Group
- The URL to your Apple User Group’s website
- The name of your magazine/newsletter
- Whether the magazine is printed or electronic format
- The issue that the article will be published in (eg Jan 2000 or Volume 6, Issue 7)
- Indicate if you require the “archive” containing the article and any associated graphics or related resources
2: The article must be re-printed exactly as supplied.
The article must be re-printed exactly as written, and in particular the credits section must remain intact and include the mention of the relevant ACNN mailing list and the zonian.net.au or nicholaspyers.com website.
The Australian spelling, if used, must be retained as supplied eg; “Colour” not “Color”. If there are genuine spelling mistakes in any article, please let me know and I’ll correct them.
Formatting and layout changes to suit the style of your magazine are allowable.
3: Supply a copy of the issue that the article appears in.
If your magazine is available electronically, then please include in the comments section of the form either (a) the URL of where it can be downloaded or (b) who to contact to have a copy emailed to Nicholas.
If your magazine is printed, this requirement is optional, but would still be appreciated.
My postal address for sending printed magazines is;

Frequently Asked Questions about Reprinting Puzzles
Q. Do we have to print the Puzzle and Solution together?
A. No, you don’t. In fact the most common form of re-publishing the puzzles is in a “serial” format. Basically, the puzzle is published in one issue and the solution is published in the next issue.
Both the puzzle and solution grids are the same dimensions each month and the solution grid can easily be re-sized to fit next to the credit section on a single page (either US Letter or A4). An example of such a layout can be viewed by clicking on the link below;
Q. Do we have to reprint the credits each time we publish a puzzle or solution?
A. Yes, the full credits must be included with each puzzle or solution.
If you use a layout similar to the Single Page mentioned above, with a Puzzle and Solution published together, then only one set of credits is required – usually you’ll use the credits for the Puzzle.
A. If you publish both the puzzle and solution within the same issue, but on different pages, then you only need to publish the credits once and you can decide to if that is with the actual puzzle or with the solution. Personally, I would suggest including the credits with solution and making the puzzle and clues as large as possible.
A. If the puzzle and solution are printed different issues and you are NOT publishing another puzzle with the previous solution, then the full credits should be printed in BOTH issues.
Q. Can we publish the puzzle in our magazine and place the solution on our website?
A. A couple of Apple User Groups have asked this question as they see it as a new way of increasing traffic to their websites and perhaps increasing their member awareness of other features that the User Group website offers.
Any non-profit Apple User Groups may do this if they wish. However, the full credits must be published with the puzzle in the magazine and they must also be published with the solution on the MUG website.
When publishing the credits on the User Group website, the links to NicholasPyers.com and SolRobots must be active hyperlinks (ie you can click on the links and they actually take you to the appropriate page and yes, it’s OK to have them open in a new window or tab)
Do you require an archive?
If you are planning on actually printing an article, we can often supply a ZIP archive that can be expanded on both Macintosh and Windows systems (and even Linux) with either included unzip routines, or using free applications like The UnArchiver.
The archive will contain the article as a plain text file and any associated graphics. The graphics are usually supplied as TIF, JPG and/or GIF, although they may occasionally be supplied as other formats.
If you require the archive, just let us know in the comments field and we’ll advise you if an archive for the article is available for downloading.
Can other Organisations obtain permission to re-print?
In most circumstances, the answer will be Yes. Just complete the form belowand in the “Comments” field please provide any additional details you feel we require and please be sure to supply the following information;
- The name of the article you wish to re-print
- The name of your organisation
- The URL to your organisation’s website
- The name of the publication the re-print will appear in
- Whether the publication is printed or electronic
- The issue that the article will be published in (eg Jan 2000 or Volume 6, Issue 7)
Once we receive your email, we will consider your request to reprint and advise you if our permission has been granted for you to publish the request article.
Once the article is published we will require a copy of the issue of your publication that the article is actually published in to be sent to either of the addresses listed above.
Inform Nicholas you are Reprinting
Remember, if you are a non-profit Apple User Group, you do NOT need to request permission to use any of Nicholas’ Articles, Puzzles, Site Reviews or Press Releases – Permission is already granted for you to use the material – you just need to complete the form below to let Nicholas know what are planning to use and when you are publishing his work.
If you are not a non-profit Apple User Group, and wish to re-publish any of Nicholas’ work, then still complete the form and in the “Comments” field please provide any additional details you feel we require and if permission to re-publish is granted we will contact you via the email address you provide.
